Life at Paragon: HR, Training & Development

Here at Paragon Creative, we are often working on lots of projects all at once so it’s really important that our internal teams work together to make sure everything is completed to an exceptional standard and delivered on time. As well as our talented production teams, we also have several departments that are key in delivering our world class projects. One of these teams manage the HR, Training and Development of the team here at Paragon.

We spoke to the HR, Training & Development Director about her experience in the team;

Can you tell us about how this department has developed over the past year?

I was appointed as Head of HR/Training in January 2017, a new title to reflect the need to develop training strategies as well as build a solid foundation for sustainable HR function.

Our recruitment plan increased significantly and so we developed more creative and innovative ways of recruitment, drove hard with SLA with our recruitment partners, selected social media, and utilised employee’s knowledge of untapped talent. We pride ourselves with recruiting raw talent, attending shows such as the model graduate fayre, New Blades, which proved invaluable to us as a business. We also developed assessment centres, with great results, we now have 3 graduates and an additional 5 freelance graduates.

We have been proactive in driving our training strategy. Designing and delivering Performance Management process & documentation, delivered at all levels.

We are also proud to have developed and delivered our Company Core Values which are: Creativity, Results, Passion, Recognition & Customer at the Heart. This has provided a strong platform for encouraging our drive for a “family Culture”.

We have had a challenging and exciting year and I am proud to be leading such a great team and looking forward to building on the solid foundation we have created in 2017.

Can you tell us about the challenges the HR Team face at Paragon?

Challenges are what we would expect within a HR function, and I think the biggest challenge for me, was to change the perception of HR. I am confident to say, we are as supportive as we are able to be and have the influence to achieve change, which I am pleased to say is reflected in our Employment Engagement Survey.

What have your biggest achievements within the department been over the past year?

I would say, increase in footfall within the HR office is testimony to feeling we are offering a confidential and supportive service, creating a feeling of adding value and belonging. As well as the introduction of our Core values, Performance Management, Employee Engagement activities, HR processes and procedures.

Importantly for me, creating an environment that is fun, professional, flexible and a place you want to be! 

What are the most important aspects of your role to you?

The PEOPLE, strong work ethics, belief and passion, to do the best we can, every day whatever the weather!
